Saigon Ride 5 (Thao Dien to District 1)

Saigon Ride 5 (Thao Dien to District 1)

Come join me on my late afternoon return ride from Baba's Kitchen in District 2 (Thao Dien Ward) back home to District 1 in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam. I decided to take the route over the Saigon River through the Binh Thanh District. This will give you the view of the Saigon metro line construction through the area. There was more construction than the last time I rode through Binh Thanh. This was the first time I had to be routed through the Vinhomes Apartments.

Since it was late afternoon, you are seeing the beginning of the rush hour traffic especially after I arrived to District 1. This was a good day, a normal day meant the trip would take much longer on this route. The Thu Thiem Tunnel route is always the fastest.

On this trip, you will notice the graffiti damage across the city. It has gotten worse since I returned back to Saigon in 2016. The city does not seem to have any program to fight the graffiti. Not even the local media. On Facebook the blame is always with foreigners especially after one foreigner was arrested in Kyoto for his graffiti in the city. He was in Saigon before his trip to Kyoto and you still see his ghost signature. I hope the city can develop a plan to stop this damage to Saigon.
